For those of you who have the joy of Black Friday, I hope you survived the mayhem unscathed.  Rather than going shopping, I went out with my Scouts to do our Survival Shelter Camp. There was lots of snow and lots of hunters around, but I’m pleased to report that everyone who went came back intact. Still, I’m undecided whether the camp or Black Friday shopping would have been the easier choice.

On today’s show I speak to Mark Leslie Lefebvre. Mark is a writer, editor and he recently became the Director of Self-Publishing & Author Relations at Kobo. Mark is also President of the Canadian Booksellers Association. We had a great conversation talking about self-publishing, Kobo Writing Life, and several other topics of interest.

I am also very pleased to have JR Murdock bring another Unorthodox Writing Tips to the show.

That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.

I often think that, to be a successful writer, you should have a good understanding of the writing craft from multiple angles. That means writing, reading, editing, marketing and promotion and even publishing. That’s the ideal, of course, and few of us have either the time or the connections to make that experience happen.

On today’s episode, I get to talk to someone who has seen publishing and the writing industry from several different directions. She is a writer, editor, slush pile reader, writing instructor and published author. Barbara Galler-Smith couples that with a wealth of varied life experiences and has a lot of interesting things to say.

I also talk about my experiences collaborating on a novel with JR Murdock. I would like to call this a lessons learned on collaboration.

I also wanted to mention that I will be at World Fantasy Convention in Toronto in a couple weeks. Not only with this be my first WFC as a pro, but I will be on a panel too. If you are at the convention, please be sure to look me up.

That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.

When I attended the 2012 “When Words Collide”, I had the opportunity to speak with a number of old friends and make a few new ones. One of the old friends is Tina Moreau. When I first, she was a young writer who also read slush for a local press. Shortly after that, she started to work as an editor for that same press.

Then she took a break to start a family and I didn’t see her for a couple years.

This year’s convention marks the first time I’ve seen her in a couple years and she came to Calgary as the head of a brand new publishing house. Tina is a co-owner and publisher for Tyche Books. I had the opportunity to sit down with Tina and hear exactly what Tyche is looking for. They have some really interesting ideas and I look forward to seeing more from them.

I also talk about adding pizzazz to your writing using experiences and interesting facts.

That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.
