Covers are a very important part of any book. A good cover can intrigue and encourage readers to try a book they might not otherwise look at and a bad one might just cause that same reader to pass it by.

In today’s show, I talk to Cover Designer, writer, voice artist and podcaster, Starla Huchton about covers and what she thinks are important considerations. We also talk about how taking a chance in a writing contest has given valuable exposure to her writing.

I also talk about something that I hadn’t really thought about before and that is an author’s signing survival kit.

That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.

I don’t know if any of you have ever noticed, but success is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, you are achieving things you have worked on for a long time. On the other hand, you suddenly have a lot more to do with those achievements and less for everything else.

That has definitely been the case for me.

Since the final revisions for Mik Murdoch began in earnest, I have had less time for podcasting, writing, television and a host of other things that I enjoy. The only ones I have worked hard not to neglect are my family. Without them, there is no point writing.

I foolishly thought that when the revisions were complete I would have lots of time. Then, I took on another project, namely the Action Pack Podcast. At the time I felt that I could handle 4,000 words per month. What I didn’t count on was that I would be spending a great deal of time promoting the book.

Well, okay. Promoting and obsessing about it, if truth be told.

That also doesn’t even consider the other books that need to be revised and readied for submission. And now I have the second Mik Murdoch book under contract to write.

It can be overwhelming.

Still, I’m not complaining. It just means that I sleep a lot less now.

Have any of you had similar experiences? I’d love to hear about them and how you dealt with them.

On today’s show, I talk to Scott Roche about Crowd Sourcing. Scott has successfully used Crowd Sourcing with his current novel release Ginny Dare. He is also looking at Kickstarter as a means to bring the sequel to Ginny Dare forward.

We talk about how we have seen crowd sourcing used, different methods of crowd sourcing and the benefits and potential problems behind it.

I also have a book review for Dave Duncan’s upcoming release, Wildcatter.

That’s today’s episode. I hope you enjoy it.

Hello Everyone and welcome to Get Published.

I’m very excited to have today’s guest on the show. James Melzer is the award-winning author of Escape: A Zombie Chronicles novel which is coming to print in 2012 from Simon & Schuster and Permuted Press. I’ve been meaning to have James on the show almost since the show began, but it never quite happened. That oversight has been taken care of in this episode.

I also received a question from @K_A_Dewberry on Twitter that I discuss in the “Tips and Typos” section. It’s a question I get a lot. Namely, “when should I start building my platform”.

I also wanted to give you all an update on my book’s progress. As you may know, I have a YA Mystery coming out very soon. I wanted it to be available in May, but it is looking more and more like it will come out in June. Stay tuned.

And with that, enjoy the show.

He is also the author of the recently released Hull’s Landing, an eBook novel published exclusively online. His short fiction has appeared in works from Library of the Living Dead Press, and his podcasts have been downloaded over one million times. He is a proponent of self-publishing, podcasting, and social media, and although he hails from Canada, Melzer currently lives in Pennsylvania with his wife, daughter, and husky who you may or may not here barking in the background. The husky, not the wife…
