2011 was pretty busy and I got a lot done. I left a lot of things needing finishing touches though too.
Since 2012 is looking to be even busier, I need to take these last few days of 2011 to finish them off and plan for the coming year.
So what does the new year hold? Well:
- My first book will be out in print: “Mik Murdoch, Boy Superhero”. I should also have at least one self-published book out too;
- I will also be working with Jeff Hite on the Mad Scientist Anthology (which begins to accept submissions January 1, 2012, by-the-way);
- I will continue to produce “Get Published” podcast;
- I will be trying to find a home for “GalaxyBillies;
- JRMurdock and I will be trying to find a home for our YA Steampunk novel;
- I have a couple of podcast ideas that I’m developing;
- Promotional work;
- Revising the next “Mik Murdoch” book (hopefully);
- and last, but not least, more writing. Lots more writing of short stories and novels.
There is no time to lose in fact. I guess I’d better get at it.
I hope your 2012 is shaping up to be something spectacular.

I usually have a laser-like focus for my blogging, podcasting and writing. Note, I said “usually”.
Lately, I’ve been feeling pretty scattered. I think it has something to do with work and the number of other projects I’ve got on the go. To make matters worse, when I’m doing something besides my actual writing and revising projects I feel guilty and cannot even enjoy periods of relaxation.
So, I decided to step back for a couple days and try to clear my head. The problem is, I stepped too far back and totally forgot to do my regular post.
I also owe a couple people guest posts and there is the whole book revision thing too.
But, I do think I needed to get out of the game for a few days just so I could step back in with fresh eyes and mind.
So, that is exactly what I’ve done.
It actually felt weird stepping away from writing and podcasting, but refreshing at the same time but now it is time to get back at it.
See you back in the trenchs.

I was very fortunate to attend a brand new Convention for Writers and Readers here in Calgary called “When Words Collide” a week ago. The convention had several VIP guests including Robert J Sawyer who agreed to be interviewed for the show. He talks about marketing and promotion in the Tips and Typos section.
I also interviewed Marc Johnson. Marc is a self-published fantasy author living in the Bay area. He talks about why he made the decision to self-publish and how he is treating his writing as a business.
Both authors talk about something I found very interesting and that is, knowing your market and targeting it. It’s an important lesson for me and one I think all authors need to hear.
I hope you enjoy the show.
